President Trump and I have had a difficult but long history. I remember the 6th-7th grade when I wanted him to win the Republican Primary and then the Presidential Election. I was elated, and I supported him all the way through this past election. I supported him passing 90-something executive orders on his first day in office.
Then came April 2nd.
We remember Liberation Day. It is the reason I wrote my longest article ever. I am a finance major. I do not believe I am dumb, and believe I am as intelligent as the best guy when it comes to finance, politics, history, America, the Bible, and other social topics. My intelligence is not my own; it is given from God. But that does not mean I know everything, and I think this comes to me as an advantage to older people. I am a sponge when it comes to what is going on in this world. With learning from history, I am able to see things in a fresh viewpoint since I did not live through that history, and use that knowledge to see the benefits and detriments going on today. To simply see both sides.
So, as much as I am an old soul, I have not yet been numbed to the workings of the enemy over a period of a long life. This is not anyone’s fault for being older, but simply the world’s. We are shaped by our experiences.
We all know children see the world from a different viewpoint simply due to what they have learned, heard, and seen from those around them and their environment. So let me lay this out for you.
Me being a 22-year-old, keep that in mind. Let me tell you what I mean.
So in my life, I have had incredible men and women around me throughout my whole life. I have mostly only seen Christ growing up in my family, and I thank God for that.
This means that the view of my world and those who lead it, mainly men (no offense), reflects the men I grew up modeling my own life after. People like my dad, my uncles, both grand and regular, my grandfather, my cousins, coaches, family friends (who are actually just family in my eyes), teachers, pastors, church family (who honestly, I picture you in one listed above, just didn’t want you to think I forgot), and a boatload more than I am forgetting, forgive me.
My view of the world concerning powerful women who serve our God is endless as well. My mom, my aunt, my grandmothers, my cousins, my family at church, teachers, and endless more. These women have shown me how to be strong in our God, to fight for the family and each other, regardless of troubles, arguments, and sadness, and they have shown me how to PRAY!
So when I see Trump. Here is the man I see. Someone my dad and mom would never let me be around. Someone who my aunts and uncles, grandpa and grandmothers, my cousins, coaches, family friends, teachers, pastors, church family, and a boatload more would be disgusted to be around.
That is, if they knew the real man.
See, here is where being young is a superpower. I do not have the luxury of being on this Earth for longer than 22 years. So I was not born into a generation that has seen as much change in one generation since the creation as those who came before me have. My world began in 2003. In all those years, I have not seen the technological, social, political, judicial, and economic changes that those who came before me have seen. And as I said before, my life has not been filled with the workings of the enemy in that regard, either. My mind has not become numb to the endless scandals, sexual promiscuity, crude language, and overall deterioration of this great nation that those who came before me have seen.
I have only seen it through your words, actions, and faith.
So please do not blame me when I do not trust a man like Donald Trump. I respect him and his beliefs; we all have them, but I do not trust his judgment as the leader of this country. Simply because he does not even come close to being a man whom I would model my life after.
The model of a man whom I want to be like does not reflect Trump. I model my life after selfless men, full of integrity, honest, hardworking, loving, fearless for their family, passionate about their God, full of prayer, humble, full of grace, never shying from respectfully speaking their mind, and who seek godly knowledge above all.
So yes, watch and read the news, but watch and read it through unfiltered lenses. How can you do that? Follow official accounts that are trustworthy across the ENTIRE political spectrum. You’d be amazed at what you learn about when you see EACH SIDE.
New International Version
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. – James 1:5
We all need wisdom, every single day, this world changes too much to rely on the past and not look toward the future with God in center sight.
And the news from this world will never compare to the Word of God; from that alone, I have learned about a man that no other could come close to, Jesus Christ.
All love,
Watchman
