The Loneliness of a Watchman

Little tidbit. “Loneliness of a Watchman?” Yeah, the fact that it seems like I am the only one (plus others, of course, but a very select few, but only older people which is very lonely to be honest) who actually sees what the heck is going on in the world and is grieved by it. That kind of loneliness. Where everyone else just moves along and says “oh well” when I want to yell, TURN AROUND, THIS IS A CRISIS. Yeah, that. That whenever I try to speak to my peers about things, they don’t really pay attention; it is in one ear and out the other when their head hits the pillow, or when their phone comes out. The fact that it seems like I am a watcher of the parable that Jesus spoke of, The Good Samaritan. The fact that it seems like I am watching the entire world RUN past the man who was robbed instead of stopping to help him. Just because we are too busy. It saddens me to see us fall this far. I myself have run past as well, for I am also a wretch. But didn’t Jesus call us to be more than that?

‘Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he encountered robbers, who stripped him of his clothes [and belongings], beat him, and went their way [unconcerned], leaving him half dead. Now by coincidence a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. Likewise a Levite also came down to the place and saw him, and passed by on the other side [of the road]. But a Samaritan (foreigner), who was traveling, came upon him; and when he saw him, he was deeply moved with compassion [for him], and went to him and bandaged up his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them [to sooth and disinfect the injuries]; and he put him on his own pack-animal, and brought him to an inn and took care of him. On the next day he took out two denarii (two days’ wages) and gave them to the innkeeper, and said, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I return.’ Which of these three do you think proved himself a neighbor to the man who encountered the robbers?” He answered, “The one who showed compassion and mercy to him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and constantly do the same.” ‘

Luke 10:30-37

We all walk past because of the pursuit of greed, comfort, lust, or just plain self-interest. I don’t know but to me it seems like, how could Jesus be proud of what we do? I fail Him every day. Sure, I have my good moments where I hold the door open or help take groceries to a car, but then I drive past someone walking in 100-degree weather who I know needs help.

Here goes, here’s the beginning of IDK pt.2. Yeah, we are back. I am going to start, I guess, writing down my thoughts. So if there are run-on sentences or things that don’t make sense, forgive me; I’ll try to make it make sense.

I really do not know what to write about. Topics come and go, but to me, they build. One topic leads to the next and then gives way to a whole structure of thinking that is too vast to simplify. So, a blog I shall write, I say.

If we are going to be frank with each other, I feel lost. I feel as if I was made for more than this life, but then again, I have such a distaste for this world, so how on earth can I become something more? I trust God wholeheartedly, though admittedly, I shy away from His plan. I enjoy the dark. I do. Not because it is dark but because it is cozy. You do not have to move, and you can observe infinitely. I thank God that the darkness that I sometimes call home is not full of self-hate anymore. But rather outward and inward introspection. I observe and ponder on everything. I think my reasoning behind this is that the world is so fast, I am an old soul, and I’ve gotta just slow down sometimes. I think we all feel that way, but goodness gracious, how I wish we could go back to the times when all there was to worry about was putting food on the table by working the land we owned alongside a good job, building a log cabin, raising kids, and playing the fiddle by the fire at night. That Little House on the Prairie kind of life. As much as I said I did not want to watch that show growing up, I did enjoy it. Not the episodes where it seemed like the same thing every time, but the ones about life back then. The need for protecting your family 24/7, the driving a wagon, the working at the mill, the small shops where you’d buy food and everything else from, the small church that doubled as a school, the slow kind of life. Nowadays we have to go to 3 seperate stores, it seems, to buy what we need; there are cars everywhere (and people cannot drive, my goodness); people are loud and obnoxious and oblivious to their surroundings, especially to those who are downtrodden and on their last legs. Life is fast now. Technology really sped it up. My generation just pays attention to their phones; we read off of screens; we talk to screens; we utilize screens in almost every aspect of our daily lives. We have removed humanity from all things, and to me that sucks. Yes, technology has made our lives faster and easier, but it has also made us dumber, slower, and unempathetic. See, now, me writing this, I think to myself, “dude, who cares?” We will just go on this way, and nothing will stop it. That is the darkness I spoke of. The ability to see every side of society and having no ability to change it. So who cares?

I have seen articles about Gen Z and the ones after it being the most apathetic generations, and it makes sense. Every decision has been made for us, so why try?

Why go to work? Retirement most likely will not be available to us, so who cares?

Why find a relationship? People suck nowadays, and finding the right person in a sea of 8 billion people is almost impossible. The statement “there are more fish in the sea” is true, but sometimes I mock it, thinking in my head, yeah, but when has the sea ever had 8 billion people in it? Try finding the right catch in that. The problem is not the lack of people, but the amount of people is the problem. You have to throw out a line 10 times just to get a first date. Then cast 25 times again to get a second date, and so on. Then will that fish even be a good catch? Who knows? There are so many secrets and rabbit trails that most give up on trying to overcome past situations and experiences.

Why go to church? (The idea that my generation is going back to church is malarkey. The data does not provide accuracy on TRUE relationships with God. Most go to “church” just to say they did). Most churches now are daycares where folks just gather to take pictures and get filled with crap that makes them feel better about themselves. As if we need more of that: people feeling they are perfect and everyone else is wrong.

I guess I am just pissed off at the world. The world that I was given. Nothing I do matters, it seems. “Go out and change the world.” The world does not want to be changed. Yeah, yeah, focus on those around you, I do. Believe me, that is the only thing that keeps me going, knowing I have an impact on those around me, like literally. It is what got me through those 12 years. But now it truly is the only hope I have. That to “go and make disciples” and “be fishers of men” means I can focus on those around me by trying to be a blessing humbles and rejuvenates me.

But man, is it hard to see the state of the world today and not want to shell up like a turtle. Not because I am asleep but because I am too awake.

I love you all and thank you for reading my soapbox.

But tbh, there is a lot more.

Lecrae explains it well. To me, what saddens me is that most of us, and myself, live for the party rather than “Die For The Party” because my good deeds are “like some period blood stains on a dirty rug.”
